Our August 2024 RV trip was an ambitious one, taking us through the historic old town areas and landscapes of Quebec and Montreal before we crossed back into the United States, eager to explore the natural beauty of New Hampshire and Vermont. While I’d read a few adventurous tales about Mount Washington, I’ll admit I didn’t have many specific expectations beyond that. Little did I know, I was about to be amazed.

Perhaps it was the perfect time of year, but the  intensity of the green was astonishing. It felt like every shade imaginable was on display, from the deep emerald of the towering pines to the delicate chartreuse of the new growth. And on this particular day at Flume Gorge in Lincoln, New Hampshire, we were incredibly fortunate. Sunlight, filtered perfectly through the dense canopy, transformed the forest floor into a magical realm. It wasn’t just light; it was an illumination, igniting the moss and other greenery with an almost neon glow. It was as if nature itself had flipped a switch, turning up the vibrancy to an eleven.

The long exposure I captured that day at Flume Gorge attempts to convey the magic I experienced. The image highlights the smooth, milky flow of the water as it tumbles over the rocks, a testament to the power and persistence of nature. The dappled light, filtering through the trees, adds a touch of whimsy, illuminating the vibrant greens and browns of the surrounding forest. It was a moment I wanted to freeze in time, a reminder of the incredible beauty that exists when nature is allowed to flourish.

A Tip for Your Visit: If you’re planning a trip to Flume Gorge, especially during peak season, it’s important to be aware that they operate with a timed entry system. I highly recommend checking the park’s website in advance to reserve your spot and ensure you can experience this natural wonder for yourself. Trust me, it’s an experience you won’t soon forget. Our day at Flume Gorge was a true highlight of our New England adventure, a reminder of the power of nature to inspire and amaze.
